PEGylated proteins have been widely accepted into clinical practice in spite of complexities in the logistics of their manufacture.
Some of recent US approvals of PEGylated products include PEG-asparaginase (Oncospar, Enzon Pharmaceuticals) and PEG-visomant (Somavert, Pfizer).
PolyTherics estimates that about 50% of therapeutic proteins will be amenable to development in PEGylated form. The Company is therefore pursuing new market opportunities through TheraPEG ™ in two key areas:
- Recombinant proteins as therapeutics
- Products based on 'next generation' antibody fragments
